Privacy policy
Last updated 5 October 2026
1. Who we are
Plato is provided by Plato Payments Limited, a company incorporated in New Zealand ("Plato", "we", "us").
We handle personal information in line with the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020, and the Australian Privacy Act 1988 where it applies.
2. What we collect
Account details: your workspace, display name and public keys. Passkeys stay on your device; we never receive them.
Content: the records, messages and AI chat conversations you and your team put into Plato.
Technical information: IP addresses, request logs and similar data needed to run and secure the service.
Billing details if you buy a paid plan: your name, billing address and payment information. Card details go straight to our payment processor; we never see them.
Contact details you give us when you email us or book a demo.
3. How we use it
To provide, secure and improve Plato, to support you, and to contact you about the service. We do not sell personal information, and we do not use advertising or tracking cookies. Plato keeps a copy of your workspace's data and your preferences in your browser so it works quickly and offline. Signing out removes your sign-in from that browser; the copy of your data stays until you clear the browser's data for Plato.
4. Who we share it with
People in your workspace, and others you share records with, see what you share with them.
Service providers that process data for us: Cloudflare, which hosts Plato; OpenAI, which processes the content you send to AI features; and Stripe, which processes payments. They may store or process data outside New Zealand, including in the United States, under safeguards comparable to New Zealand law.
Anyone we must disclose to by law, or a successor entity.
5. Keeping it safe
Changes in Plato are signed: yours with keys held on your devices, and those of agents you authorise with keys we hold for them. Access is checked against your workspace's permissions. We keep personal information only as long as we need it to provide Plato or meet legal obligations.
6. Your rights
You may ask to access or correct the personal information we hold about you, or ask us to delete it: support@plato.build. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the New Zealand Office of the Privacy Commissioner (privacy.org.nz) or, in Australia, the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (oaic.gov.au).
7. Changes
We may update this policy and will post changes here.
